On February 19, 2002 at 2350 hrs. units were dispatched to a first due house fire on the 400 block of Topeka Avenue. Engine Companies 5, 8, 38, Truck 17, and Rescue Squad 22 were dispatched to the scene with report of people trapped.
Incident Commander, Chief 5A arrived on the scene with heavy smoke showing.
Engine Company 5 advanced a hose line into the house to knock the fire while Resuce Squad 22 performed a search. Engine 81 took a back-up line and also conducted a quick search of the house. They found no people trapped.
Truck 17 pulled ceilings and checked for extension. Units from 5 were on the scene until 0145 hrs. The cause of this fire is still under investigation.
