Our 2012 Graduates

On Saturday, May 12, 2012 Lt. Ross Spohn graduated from the Catholic University of America (CUA) with a baccalaureate degree in Political Science. After graduation Ross will return home to New Jersey to work for the summer and relax. He plans to return to the Washington, D.C. area in the fall to take a job with the federal government. While at CUA, Ross served as the Station President for the WCUA Radio Station. Ross joined the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department in 2009. He was promoted to 3rd Lieutenant in February 2012. Ross also is a volunteer firefighter back home in New Jersey at the Palisades Park Fire Department.

On Friday, May 18, 2012 FF/EMT Austen Stutsman received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the George Washington University (GWU), School of Medicine. Austen has been accepted in the residency program for sports medicine at Proaxis Therapy in Greenville, South Carolina. However, she has an upcoming interview at the University of Southern California (USC) for their sports medicine residency program. Wherever she lands, We are sure that Dr. Stutsman will do well. Austen joined the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department in 2009, hoping to get some experience in emergency medicine riding the ambulance. She quickly learned she liked firefighting just as well.

Congratulations to EMT Todd Belok who also just graduated from George Washington University with a degree in Political Science. He also minored in pre-medicine. Todd will remain in the area and now that he has graduated plans to spend more time helping to staff the station. Todd now works for the National Childrens Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

The department is proud of Ross, Austen and Todd. We congratulate them on achieving their degrees. We wish them much success and hope that as they go about their life pursuits, they remain members of this department, no matter where their careers take them, and they participate when they can.

Congratulations!
