2015 CHVFD Tree of Courage Raises Awareness and Funds to Help Those with Cancer
The Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank everyone who participated in the 2015 Tree of Courage. This special tree was placed in tribute to our loved ones who have battled with cancer. The tree shared its name with our pink engine, Courage, which raises awareness about cancer every time it leaves the firehouse.
In October 2015, the Tree of Courage was set up in quarters and we began placing ornaments on the tree for all different types of cancer including: breast cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, thyroid cancer, and many other cancers. We also placed ornaments to raise awareness for firefighter cancer and World Trade Center (WTC) cancer.
Along with each ornament placed, a $5 donation was made in honor of your loved ones. The response was outstanding and many contributed to help us raise awareness of this terrible disease that affects so many. Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department is pleased to report that through everyone’s support, the $500 that was raised from the 2015 Tree of Courage was donated to Firefighter Cancer Support Network and the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
