Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary Mourn the Passing of Past Auxiliary President Evelyn Mockabee

Evelyn Mockabee

Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary has suffered another great loss within days of losing our current Ladies Auxiliary President. On the morning of October 27, 2009 past Ladies Auxiliary President Evelyn Mockabee died in Palm Bay, Florida.

Her mother Mrs. Campbell and her husband Paul were also very active in the Ladies Auxiliary.

While many of the members of the department were overseas fighting in World War II, the Ladies Auxiliary was trained and they responded to calls. We know that Evelyn drove fire trucks during the war.

Evelyn served as President of the Capitol Heights Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary from 1959 through 1960; 1968 through 1973 and again from 1982 through 1992.

In September 1988, Evelyn and her mother Mrs. Carrie Campbell were inducted into the Prince George’s County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association Ladies Auxiliary’s Hall of Fame.

A memorial service will be conducted in Florida on Sunday with burial at the veteran’s cemetery on Monday.

Our sincerest condolences go out to the Mockabee Family. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
